Guided Ice Fishing Trips Overview

What You Need to Know

  • Winter Fishing Season: December 20th-March 31st.
  • Tour Times: The recommended start is at 8:00 AM, and it can last up to 8 hours, although you can start anytime.
  • Meeting point: all trips depart from Northwoods Outfitters in Greenville. Please check in early.
  • Tours are Private: We tailor to your interests and experience. Please consider a gratuity for your guide.
  • Cancellations: Due to the unpredictable nature of our weather, all tours go rain or shine. There are no refunds for inclement weather. However, if we determine conditions are unsafe and must cancel your trip, you will be notified and fully refunded immediately if you choose not to reschedule.

Your Ice Fishing Tour Includes

  • Maine Ice Fishing Guide: Experienced Registered Maine Ice Fishing guide
  • Shelter: Warm wood-heated fish house
  • Food and Drink: Hot Chocolate, Coffee, Water, and soft drinks. Full lunch options and snacks are also available. Please let us know your preferences and dietary restrictions.
  • The Gear: All fishing equipment and bait are included.
  • Transportation: Depending on the location, by snowmobile or by vehicle
  • Safety: Snowmobile helmets are included with the snowmobile. We also offer warm clothing for rent or sale if necessary.

What to Bring:

  • A Maine fishing license is required for anyone 16 or older. You may purchase online (recommended) or at our store in advance.
  • Clothing: Temperatures vary throughout the day, so dress in warm layers, preferably not cotton. Warm, windproof outerwear, insulated winter boots, and gloves are recommended. Thermal underwear and warm socks are also recommended. We also rent warm winter clothing!
  • Warm winter clothing is available for Rent or Sale at Northwoods Outfitters.
  • Optional: Camera, Cell phone, Sunscreen, and sunglasses as needed

Trip Structure on Moosehead Lake

Our Ice fishing season runs December 20 through March 31. The recommended start time is 8:00 AM, and trips can last up to 8 hours, although custom start times are available. Trips depart from Northwoods Outfitters in Greenville, and every outing is private, so the day can be shaped around your interests, group size, and experience level.

Moosehead lake opens to ice fishing Jan 1, however we start our season on other local lakes.

Ice Fishing FAQs

Yes. Fishing locations are chosen around current ice conditions, and safety decisions are made before and during the trip. If conditions are unsafe, the trip is cancelled and you will be notified right away. If you do not want to reschedule, you will be fully refunded.

All ages and skill levels are welcome. That makes these trips a good fit for families, first-timers, and guests who simply want a comfortable day on the ice with an experienced guide. A good age to start would be 7 years.

Ice fishing trips go forward in winter weather unless conditions are determined to be unsafe. There are no refunds for ordinary inclement weather, but if a trip must be cancelled for safety reasons, you will be contacted right away and fully refunded if you choose not to reschedule.
