Plan Your Trip to Moosehead Lake

Northwoods Outfitters is located on Lily Bay Road at the south end of Moosehead Lake – the largest lake in Maine. This is the kind of place where you can spend the morning on the water or trail, take in mountain views in the afternoon, and still be back in town for dinner.

Getting here is easier than many first-time visitors expect. Moosehead Lake is just 1 hour 45 minutes (~70 miles) from Bangor, Maine, and a ~3 hour drive from Portland (~150 miles). Boston is only ~260 miles away – the ~5 hour drive makes it a realistic long weekend or Maine vacation destination from across New England.

Moosehead Lake is also a doable destination from Maine’s coastal gems: Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Both are ~3 hours away by car (~115 to ~130 miles). Camden is ~140 miles away (roughly 3.5 hours by car), while the rugged peaks of Mt. Katahdin/Baxter State Park are only a ~2.5 hour drive (~100 miles) – especially enjoyable when your destination is Moosehead Lake!

A full day here can look like this: start with an exciting guided trip or rental in the morning. Grab lunch at a restaurant in the Moosehead Lake area, then head out for a scenic drive along the shores of Moosehead Lake with views of Mount Kineo. Explore nearby Lily Bay State Park, then enjoy strolling through Greenville’s charming downtown area and browsing in Northwoods Outfitters’ amazing retail store. After a delicious dinner – a seasonal sunset walk or some live local music are perfect ways to cap your Moosehead Lake day!

When it’s time to “hit the hay”, cozy up in one of our delightful retreats – upscale log home; historic barn suites; lakeside cabin, or Moose Mountain Inn. Book Your Maine Vacation Today!
